JiuZhaiGou Day 3

»

If sitting on the bus for 6 hours is bad, try walking for 6 hours :P That’s what we did yesterday walking through JiuZhaiGou Valley. But gosh, it is worth it!

(Bamboo Lake is the place where they filmed the beautiful water scene in Hero (英雄))

Champion of IPv6

»

I got an angry email regarding my previous entry on overlay network which basically said “How can you call yourself champion of IPv6 for Singapore!?”. First, let me clarify that I am not against IPv6 – I still support IPv6 very much and hope it will succeed.

But hope don’t change reality. Just like any prudent investors will tell you “never fall in love with your stocks”, the same can be said for a technologist falling in love with his technology. And in many ways they are pretty much similar – they have their ups and downs so sometimes you buy, sometimes you sell; you make the most by holding long term but they always have a lifespan.

And most important of all, some people thinks I am the “champion of IPv6 for Singapore”, I am really “champion of IPv6 for Singapore“. And there lies all the misunderstandings.

JiuZhaiGou Day 2

» ,

We managed to wrap up and conclude CDNC meeting by the morning (incidently, it is a good meeting – I am glad I am here!). So we decided to visit the famous 扎嘎瀑布 (Zhaga Waterfall) in the afternoon.

(you can see Prof. Qian waving if you look at the photo carefully ;-)

iN 2015

»

in2015.jpgA few days ago, IDA announced the next phase after Connected Singapore plan called iN 2015 (Intelligent Nation 2015)1, a IT masterplan for the next 10 years for Singapore for work, life and leisure. Unlike previous masterplan where it is done internally, this time IDA is engaging the community to provide input to this masterplan.

So where do you want Singapore to be in 2015?

Decisions are made by those who show up so do participate!

Skype call

»

Remember I said I don’t hang my Skype call?

skype-call.png

nearly 10hours of just background noise and snorings. I can’t imaging doing this on POTS. Oh, did I mention I did this from a hotel in the mountain of China? The voice quality is incredible, much better then I get from my mobile phone.

I am sure I am not the only one doing this – now imaging what kind of social change will this brings? Extending this to video is obvious to all but how about able to project it on the hotel wall, that I would be far away from home yet just virtually “in the next room”?

Off to Jiuzhaigou

»

jiuzg.jpg

Okay, I am packing my stuff again travelling to JiuZhaiGou (九寨沟). That’s where we going to have our CDNC meeting. The journey will take about a day (Hey, I have no complains – I am here on their invitation.)

九寨沟, for those who don’t know is an beautiful place. Our meeting is held at “九寨天堂” (JiuZhai Paradise Resort and Conventional Center) which is very near 神仙池 (Goddess Lake) where they filmed the Hero (英雄)

“九寨沟秋之美:缠绵醉人如诗如梦”

Oops. Gotta go now. Hope I have Internet connection there.

In Beijing

»

zhongguanchun.jpgIt was more then 2 years since the last visit to Beijing so I was very happy to be back here again. This time for CDNC which means more IDN, CDN and IEMAIL. What surprising to me was how much this have changed. Okay, maybe not so much because I expected a lot of changes – and it didn’t surprised me.

I am staying at Jade Palace Hotel right at the center of 中关村, the very same hotel I stayed 4-5 years ago when it first build. Back then, the hotel was just build and the area wasn’t even developed. I remember there was mud all over the place, right in front of the hotel. Today, the whole area are build up and buzzing with activities.

China growth is undeniable strong…
